Dreamworks studios is touting 3D as the next film revolution as it begins previewing it's first film built from the ground up with InTru 3d technology. Monsters vs. Aliens hits theaters March 27th and will star the voice talents of Reese Witherspoon, Keifer Sutherland, Seth Rogan, Hugh Laurie, and Stephen Colbert.
Monsters vs. Aliens is a comedic take on the cliché alien invasion flick. After the US gives its best shot at stopping the aliens with traditional means they resort to letting “monsters” out of their secret prison to save the planet. The monsters include the missing link between man and fish, a maniacal cockroach, an indestructible blob, a gigantic insect, and a 50 story tall woman.
Dreamworks will be releasing two versions of the film, one in 3D and another in 2D for home viewing purposes. The 3D theater version will still require 3D viewing glasses, but they will look more like traditional sunglasses than the old days of the red and blue plastic/cardboard contraptions. This new experience may come with a higher price tag as Jeffrey Katzenberg said they will be charging $5 more per ticket for the 3D experience. Other interviews do make it sound like this charge may be a surcharge that people could avoid by purchasing their own pair of 3D glasses. Information is still a little spotty at this point, but I'm sure more will become known as the premiere of Monsters vs. Aliens draws closer.
In the mean time check out this trailer from the film.
