Lord of the Rings Online has officially launched it's preorder campaign for the game's first retail expansion titled “LOTRO: Mines of Moria”. The official release of the game will be November 18th. It will come in a “Complete Edition” and a “Collector's Edition” for people new to LOTRO and include the complete original game as well as the new Moria expansion. There will also be a digital download version of the expansion for current subscribers.
Lord of the Rings Online is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game) based on the classic series by JRR Tolkien. It launched April 24, 2007 and has had several free mini expansions called books in the last year and a half. These books have advanced the story through The Fellowship of the Ring and will be moving on once “Moria” is launched. LOTRO requires a monthly subscription, as do most MMOs, and internet connection to play. It has received great reviews from both critics and players alike for keeping to the spirit of the novels and its immersive atmosphere. It is considered by most to be a “must play” for all Tolkien fans. All versions of the game will get a special pricing offer for monthly subscription costs which are normally $14.99/month. People who preorder Moria will receive the option of purchasing multiple months at $9.99 each or purchasing a lifetime subscription for $199. The $199 option may sound pricey, but considering that most good MMOs have a lifespan of several years that's quite a bargain. (It's equal to about 13 months at the normal subscription rate of 14.99). The Complete Edition will retail for $39.99 and the Collector's Edition will retail for $79.99. The Collector's Edition will include quite a few extras such as a replica of The One Ring and a cloth map of the underground world of Moria.
